People who are living in and around the surroundings – big fan of cycling and active tourism, so it is a significant step forward that the Murakeresztúr municipality won HUF 970 million for the construction of a nearly seven-kilometer long bicycle path – which is also on the Mura embankment – through the Area and Settlement Development Operative Program. Parliamentarian Péter Cseresnyés, who supported the development from the beginning, had a big role in winning the project. The trail will run from Molnári all the way to Őrtilos – which is the border of Somogy county – guiding cyclists and hikers to wonderful landscapes.
Visitors can visit a plenty of historical hungarian monuments – as Zrinyi-újvár, the renovated castle with a well.
The development was implemented as part of the Mura program, which is a huge step for the region. Branches near the bike path being built next to Murakeresztúr, lead to the village center, which is a few hundred meters away from the path. The locals welcome tourists with cultural programs, craft demonstrations and gastronomic specialities, and can also provide them accommodation.
The new bicycle path also touch the mine lakes in Murakeresztúr, where they want to create a leisure center in cooperation with the mine owner after the completion of the landscaping works.
